Day Three of our Journey Through Yellowstone

We were sad to see our little trip end, but we went out with a bang! We had one last day of sight-seeing in the Park, getting as far as the XXXX entrance. We did not make it all the way around the park, choosing quality over quantity and, besides, I wanted to take a little hike and get a break from the sulphur fumes for a while. We hiked out to the Natural Bridge formation, which was an easy stroll and a great place for a picnic and a real delight. I even saw a couple of snakes there. They slithered into the rocks as I approached, but not before I got their photo.

As a special treat, we were stopped on the road for about 45 minutes as a herd of bison mingled around us, moving from the green fields on one side of the road to the river on the other. They weren't curious about us, but they were cautious, with the males placing themselves in our physical path and maintaining eye contact with Al while the mares and their little ones scampered across the pavement. It was a lot of fun to watch them interact, but we were glad that all passed peacefully, too. WOW, they sure are big powerful animals. Very impressive.

We also saw a coyote at one of the geyser stops along the road. He looked hungry, but ran away when people noticed him. The sunshine was amazing on our last day there, making great deep blue pools, giant moving clouds of steam, and dramatic sun-ladders to amaze us. What a breath-taking trip this was, and how peaceful and quiet.

Our drive home was loads of fun, too. We listened to podcasts through Al's radio and stopped at little towns along our way through Idaho. We also found time to duck in to Craters of the Moon State Park. Very cool!
