Bonneville Dam and Steigerwald Nature Preserve, June, 2014

This was a neat outing. I went to admire the salmon working their way up the fish ladder at the Bonneville Dam and ended up looking down the throats of about a hundred lampreys that were also migrating upriver. They were creepy the way they stuck to the window and let their bodies undulate in the current.

Luckily, there was a tour group just about to depart for a look at the old power station at the dam, so I tagged along. It was very neat! Plus, on the way home, I stopped at Steigerwald Lake Nature Preserve on the banks of the Columbia River. There, I walked along the path and saw plenty of turtles, herons, eagles, and finches. It's a neat little area that I'm looking forward to revisiting soon.
